And Alfred isn't one to suffer sub-par offerings when he's more than capable of making better so I guess that's a compliment.
I look forward to meeting you again.
[They had spoken at Fort Harmony once, Tim wonders if he remembers it at all but he contacts his brothers to see if they want to join him. Rude perhaps but he wants to see if the unexpected will shake the man.
He sources an expensive bottle of wine and meets his brothers outside Hannibal's home address. He looks to both Dick and Jason, a warning to behave in his eyes before he knocks on the door]
I hope you do not mind the intrusion. The Network is an interesting place today. I thought, perhaps...I should see that you were well.
[ And not, you know. About to murder one of Rafa's loves, or anything. That post had pointed rather clearly towards Hannibal. If Rafa had made the connection, surely Hannibal himself would have as well. Whether anyone else would, without knowing all that Rafa knows, is up for debate. But still, it's a tentative truce that they all have. He thinks it best to make sure it's still in place. ]
[Dick arrives at the set time by Tim, raising an eyebrow at the pointed look by the youngest Robin: he's not the problem child in the family. Crossing his arms over his chest, he tilts his head slightly:]
I'm guessing Alfred isn't aware of this little visit of ours?
[Don't get him wrong, Tim: he's all for making sure that their grandfather figure doesn't get more heartaches than he already has with the three boys here in Duplicity, but they've talked about trust before. This is certainly not making him inclined to be opened about his personal life: on one hand, Tim might bug the people he cares outside of their little family, and on the other, there's a good chance for Jason to either be an ass to them just for associating with him, or downright flirting with them. Oh yes, he knows about Dawn and the 'babe' comment. Real smooth, Jay.
Still, Dick is curious about this 'Dr. Lecter'. Alfred mentioned him in passing in the past, but it's what his grandfather had said had stuck with him. That's why he's here, even though he's pretty sure they're breaching Alfred's trust with this whole charade.]
[Hannibal makes sure the sugar is easily available, before settling himself down in his own chair. He fixes his own tea with sugar and lemon, enjoying the sour and the sweet together.
He stirs his tea.]
To warn me off from hurting his lovers. Although I sincerely doubt he meant to make me this angry or ...cautious.
[What an interesting message. Hannibal is half-considering making sure that his doors are locked and he has a scalpel in hand. He cannot do much against three vampires - but he will not go down quietly.
Yet ... he knows Rafa to be the one with the diplomacy skills. He also knows that Rafa truly wants this Council to work.
Ergo.]
I find myself at an interesting crossroad between common sense and emotions.
Neither of which you would wish to deny, I am sure.
[ This is a complicated situation. Rafa doesn't at all blame Will for wanting to put Hannibal on notice, so to speak. He has reason to be worried. After all this man has taken what he loved from him before, and now his lovers are in Hannibal's space. This could turn messy very easily. Rafa would like to halt that, if he can. ]
Some words have more meanings than one. To one person, they may mean little. To another, who is better informed, much more could bear out. Yet to the first person, what was said remains as meaningless as it first seemed.
[ Yeah, behave and Jason aren't things that often go very well together. Maybe these other two dweebs decided to look somewhat presentable for the occasion but Jason did not. His bum ass self arrived in torn jeans and a hoodie as per usual. Hey, if this asshole was 'courting' Alfred or whatever, even if it's not his Alfred, it was an Alfred. Which meant whoever the fuck was going to have to get used to Mr. Attitude. Right? Sounded right to him.
Also, fuck you Dick. He was totally smooth. What the hell's wrong with calling Dawn babe anyways? She is, right? He was just saying it like it was, man. Anyway, he stands arms crossed and about as far away from Grayson as he can reasonably get without looking too weird. ]
Don't fuckin' look at me like that, dude. I showed up and that's where my promise ends.
[Hannibal opened the door at the knock, a quietly polite look on his face. He did pause for a millisecond, looking from one to the other, before letting out a quiet chuff of amusement.]
You are most definitely Alfred's grandsons. [Accented, but smoothing back into polite, he stepped back to let the three of them in. He himself was wearing a red cashmere sweater with dark grey slacks, elegant but most definitely casual.]
Please, come on in. I have set up tea in the living room. Thank you so much for coming.
I am faultlessly honest with myself - even my own shortcomings. As it stands ... I am merely wondering what precisely was the point.
[Hannibal was already 'on notice'. This seems like overkill. Like Will was searching for something. Hannibal was not sure what that was - and so was waiting for the knife to fall.]
Yet some can see no meaning to begin with, and on later reflection, realize there was a thread there that might be followed.
[He rubs the bandage on his hand meditatively.]
I suppose it all comes down to the universal query. Why?
[Why this? Why now? Why endanger the fragile alliance that Rafa was building with Hannibal, and vice versa. Why risk the calm understanding between Hannibal and Ignacio?]
[Tim is opening his mouth to reply to Dick when Hannibal opens the door and he swings back around to smile pleasantly at Hannibal]
Good evening! I'm sorry for the extra company but as I'm sure you can understand, we are all concerned about Alfred's happiness.
[Tim is dressed in a suit he would wear to work at Wayne Enterprises. He's trying to make a good impression himself. He bows his head and steps inside and holds out the bottle of alcohol]
I'm not sure what you enjoy drinking but I hope you can enjoy this.
[ Rafa doesn't immediately answer. When he does speak, it's with care. ]
You will recall, perhaps...what happened the last time Will had a family.
That we are working together, it worries him. I believe he felt protective, and so, he acted. Perhaps I was wrong to want to keep him away from what we were doing.
[Hannibal was trying very, very hard not to have an Expression. If Rafa and Ignacio had seen Molly and Walter -- they might have known immediately that they were not Will's true family. They were his smoke screen, his buffer to a normalcy he never felt. Will was going to drink himself to death in that small cabin in Maine.
Still.]
I hardly think the two of you would be in any physical danger from me.
[A pause, before Hannibal exhaled.] Perhaps ... you should ask him if that is what he wants. If it is, you and I both know he will not stop until he is involved. [Even if Will had to manipulate Rafa to do so.]
[Rafa had been honest with him - Hannibal did him the courtesy of being honest in kind.]
Extremely. However ... I am equally impressed and dazzled. If that makes sense.
[For all of their cordiality, Legato doesn't really have to pretend, here. He's still feeling out the nuances of his new friend's personality and demeanor, of course, but their genial exchanges have largely been for the benefit of an audience or as a private joke between two monsters pretending to be human.
Now, for him at least, it is time to work.
He stirs his tea, and as he watches the liquid spin in the teacup, he lets his features settle into a much more comfortable absence of expression while he thinks.]
So, it isn't necessarily meant as a overt threat. He only wants control.
[Repeating it back for verification, but it isn't phrased as a question.]
He was speaking to you, knowing that you would be listening and that it would make an impact. Pulling on the emotional strings that he knew he could reach, and... it seems that it worked too well. Now it's your turn to choose how to react.
[Almost certainly stating the obvious, but he wants to make sure he is understanding all of this correctly and that they are on the same page so far.]
[Hannibal is sipping his tea delicately, listening in turn to Legato. After all, the man heard out Hannibal's concerns. He was here to offer advice and feedback on what Hannibal's options were. It would be rude to interrupt with churlish behavior.]
I think it is meant as both. [Answering only where there seems to be a question of Will's motivations.]
Indeed. If I were back in my own world - and I was this threatened .... well. I would clean house and leave.
[That's all the feedback he needs, honestly. Any argument beyond that would be nitpicking details, as far as he's concerned.]
And I imagine that you'd had a lot more room to move around in at home. I think you'd agree that size of this particular cage necessitates certain changes in behavior.
[Whether that behavior is altering what sort of people to eat, putting a genocide on hold, or deciding what to do when cornered in a pit full of super-powered enemies.]
What would likely be a clean break away from a threat at home would only be rushing out into their sights here.
[ At the appointed date and hour, Solus arrives at the Crimson nightclub. Compared to the first time he had wandered in, he now strides purposefully towards the doors and enters the establishment. A simple query points him in the direction of the room Dr Lecter has claimed for his own, and shortly after, there is a knock on his door. ]
I do not think physical danger is what concerns him.
[ Especially when it comes to Rafa. Will has always seemed to feel that Rafa lacks some form of mental resilience, and thus is in need of protection. Rafa's opinion is that it's more than five hundred years too late for that. He doesn't seek it, but he knows that Will wants to give it. ]
I understand you. I will speak with him. I suggest he is protective of me when I do not need it, yet I have tried to do the same with him.
If I can be candid, Doctor Lecter, you have left scars upon him. I do not want more damage to be done, he does not deserve it.
[Hannibal is waiting for him at the office door, and he gestures Solus inside before closing the door behind them both. He gestures the other man politely to one of the chairs there.]
Good evening, Solus. Thank you so much for coming out for this.
